Proportion of Population who are of Working Age - 16-64

The proportion of people of working age provides an indication of the total number of potential workers in the economy. If you have relatively small numbers of working age population the economy will rely on a smaller population to generate wealth. The proportion of people of working age varies across Devon and tends to be higher in areas that are centres for employment. Exeter and Plymouth stand out due to the Universities attracting high numbers of young people.
